Resilient City
For this fourth year studio, we looked at the Edgemere neighborhood of the NY Rockaways. With rising sea levels this neighborhood like many others is in serious danger of flooding. We started off with a deep dive into site analysis. We worked with a City Planning Grad Program who where Clients of R.I.S.E. ( a local group working to engage the youth in Edgemere) After analyzing all the limitations of a high flood zone I came up with a plan to manipulate the natural terrain, using cut and fill methods, to redirect access water back into the bay with the help of existing underground canals. With Strategically placed retention ponds I was able to design a housing & farming plan that would be able to protect themselves from a 14' sea-level rise.
