Cradled
For this fourth year studio, we had the chance to work in teams of 4 to deliver a neotenic nursing pod in partnership with the Overlay Office. The nursing pod would be designed to be in a facility for new parents to learn and socialize together. We also designed alternative design to be mass produced for public places as a refuge for parents and their newborns.
Our teams goal was to meet every need of the parents, from a changing table, diaper storage, a bassinet, and even a place an additional child can sit in public spaces, like an airport. We utilized the neotenic piping as hidden storage compartments, and as the pipping separated we allowed light to shine through. While using a responsive seating technology that supports nursing mothers. As you sit down the seating under your knees rise to support the babies head. If you choose to lay then the raised area works as an armrest.
